چکیده

Turbo-code is known as the powerful error correcting code. The principle of turbo-code, which is the concatenated convolutional code, makes it possible to control the code rate by the use of the puncturing. When the puncturing is applied, the reliability of the decoded bits is not uniform over a frame, because some bits are decoded using only received information bits, and the others are decoded using both information and redundant bits. In the turbo-code decoding, the capability of error correcting is improved by the iterative decoding with updated extrinsic values. The extrinsic values are outputted by each elementary decoder and represent the reliability of decoded bits. In this paper we propose a novel turbo-code decoding algorithm, which compensates the di erence of the reliability by weighting the extrinsic values. By the computer simulation, we show that the proposed method achieves lower BER than the conventional decoding algorithms. key words turbo-codes, weighting, punctured codes, extrinsic information

EXIT Chart Aided Design of Periodically Punctured Turbo Codes

EXtrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts have proved to be an effective tool for studying the convergence behaviour of iterative decoders. However, classical EXIT chart analysis fails to assess the performance of turbo codes in which the systematic bits are punctured periodically. In this letter, a novel 3-Dimensional (3D) EXIT chart technique is proposed for accurately modeling the converg...

Performance Analysis of Multilevel Punctured Turbo Codes

In applications of wireless packet-oriented video and image communications, a special coding scheme, referred to as multilevel coding (MLC), exhibits both power and bandwidth efficiency by jointly optimizing channel coding and modulation. In particular, MLC is suitable for communications over a degraded broadcast channel due to its superposition structure. Moreover, the hierarchical channel cod...

Performance Analysis and Design of Punctured Turbo Codes

Turbo codes, formed by the parallel concatenation of two recursive systematic convolutional component codes separated by an interleaver, have been proposed for use in a variety of wireless applications, including mobile, satellite and fixed wireless systems. Analysis of their performance requires knowledge of their transfer function, which conveys their distance properties. Using the transfer f...

Sequential Decoding for Mobile Receivers

Currently many classical detection and decoding algorithms receive new attention in mobile communications. Amongst those classics are low density parity check codes [1], concatenated codes [2], weighted decoding with log-likelihood values as well as soft-in/soft-out decoding as performed by the BCJR algorithm and its derivatives [4], [5]. All four classics show up as key elements in the so-call...

Interative ("turbo") decoding of threshold decodable codes

In this paper we extend the idea of iterative decoding of two–dimensional systematic convolutional codes — so–called ”turbo” codes — to threshold decoding. A threshold decoding algorithm is presented which uses soft information from the channel and a priori values as input and delivers soft outputs. The soft output can be split into three terms. The first two terms represent the soft input incl...
